Why I’m Running — And What I’ll Fight For

I'm running for the Vermont Senate because I believe Vermont can be more affordable and that our government should work for the people, not the other way around. Vermonters deserve bold leaders who aren’t afraid to solve Vermont’s toughest challenges on housing, healthcare, public education, and property taxes.

I am not running on promises, I am running on 20+ years of public service. I've built my career around listening, problem-solving, and achieving community-oriented results for my neighbors.

I've spent 12 years as an elected official in Essex and Essex Junction, working through complex budgets, infrastructure decisions, housing debates, and tough community conversations. I've led Emerge Vermont, training and supporting Democratic women to run for office and win. I've worked for the State of Vermont at the Agency of Commerce and Community Development. I represent Vermont at the Democratic National Committee. I’m a former small business owner, a community volunteer, and a mom of three.

Here's what I will fight for in Montpelier:

Break the housing bottleneck.

More housing, more quickly is the key.

We all know that Vermont is navigating a severe housing shortage; we can’t afford to add new costs and delays that make it harder for working people, young families, and rural landowners to live, build, and stay here.

Vermont needs more homes so people can afford to live in the communities they love. That means cutting red tape, supporting smart growth, and working with local communities and partners to create housing options that work for people at different stages of life.

I support housing legislation that actually makes it easier to build housing and infrastructure — innovations like the Community Housing Infrastructure Program, practical permitting reform, and tools that help municipalities move forward on projects without unnecessary duplication and delay.

Commit to an education system that works for all Vermonters.

We can and must come together on an education system that delivers high quality education for our kids at a sustainable cost for Vermonters.

Vermont's education funding system is not working. Property tax bills are rising faster than local communities can absorb, and the disconnect between local budget decisions and what Vermonters actually pay has eroded trust in the system.

I will support transforming the education funding formula so that local decisions are reflected in local tax bills. We can deliver a high-quality education for Vermont's kids and a sustainable cost for Vermont's taxpayers — but only if we're committed to finding and following through on real structural changes.

Reduce the cost of healthcare for all Vermonters.

Everyone deserves access to healthcare they can afford, close to home.

Every Vermonter deserves access to healthcare they can afford, close to home. Vermont’s health care system is one of the most expensive in our entire country and we have an aging population. Insurance premiums are skyrocketing, prescription drug costs are still unattainable, and our mental health and substance use services are stretched beyond capacity.

I will push to lower premiums and prescription costs, reduce wait times, strengthen mental health and substance use services, and build a system that supports Vermonters as they age. Healthcare should be affordable and accessible to everyone, not a luxury few can afford.

Take a multifaceted approach to public safety.

Safe communities are built on trust, prevention, and accountability.

Law enforcement, courts, social services, and treatment programs must work together across Chittenden County to ensure that everyone can use and enjoy our public spaces safely.

I believe in approaches that are grounded in prevention and accountability alike. I will support strong collaboration across systems — because public safety is a community responsibility, and it requires community-wide solutions.

Foster thriving local economies and support small business.

Strong communities depend on good jobs, local businesses, and reliable infrastructure.

Small businesses are the backbone of Vermont's economy. Nearly 50% of Vermont's workforce is employed by small businesses and 97% percent of employed Vermonters work for a company with fewer than 20 employees. These are our neighbors, our community anchors, our downtown storefronts and family farms.

As a former small business owner, I know how hard this work is and how little margin for error there is. I will fight for stronger support of small businesses, reduced regulatory burden, a childcare system that keeps workers in the workforce, mental health services in our downtowns, and flood resiliency investments that protect what Vermont's communities have built. Strong local economies require reliable infrastructure and state systems that work predictably — and I will hold Montpelier accountable for delivering both.

Prioritize the needs of children and families.

When families are supported, communities are stronger.

When families are supported, communities are stronger. Vermont families must be able to meet their basic needs, rely on public services, and feel safe in their homes and communities. I will prioritize policies that make Vermont a place where people can afford to raise children, access childcare, and build stable lives.

Protect Vermont from federal overreach and chaos.

Vermont has a long tradition of standing up for its values and its people.

We must protect Vermont’s immigrant communities against violations of their rights and dignity. We must do everything possible to prevent and withstand funding cuts to benefits, healthcare subsidies, and infrastructure, and resist deployment of Vermont’s resources to further authoritarian federal demands.
